Why I Work Evenings and Weekends (and Why I Don’t Regret It)
Share
Let’s get one thing straight: I know it probably looks a bit mad.
Working evenings. Working weekends. Going to see friends and THEN coming back home to squeeze in some design time with the baby monitor erring away next to me and half an eye on the series we are watching. And honestly? Sometimes it does feel a bit mad.
Tufty Studios isn’t a full-time gig (yet). It’s a passion project. A second shift. A thing I build in the scraps of time left between being a mum, holding down my day job, and occasionally remembering to eat lunch.
So yes — I work when other people are chilling on the sofa or watching Netflix. I work when the house is quiet and the washing still isn’t folded.
This business might be small right now, but it’s full of heart. It means something. And for that, I’ll show up on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday nights with cold tea, messy hair, and a very real to-do list.
People Think I’m Crazy… But They Don’t See This Bit
People sometimes say, “I don’t know how you do it.”
Or “Why are you bothering?!”
Or “Is it really worth it?”
And the answer is: yes. It is. Because they don’t see what I see.
They don’t see the smile on someone’s face when they open a gift I helped create.
They don’t see the messages from customers saying it made them cry (in the good way).
They don’t see the joy of creating something from scratch and knowing it’s now part of someone else’s special moment.
That’s why I do it.
It’s Not Glamorous (But It’s Worth It)
There’s no studio team. No warehouse. Just me, my laptop, and an old kitchen full of paper trimmings and the slug that appears every night!
It’s not glamorous. But it’s real.
And every order that comes in? That’s someone choosing me. Choosing handmade. That means more than I can ever explain.
Would I Love More Time?
Absolutely. I'd love a full day to just make. To get ahead. To play with new ideas without being interrupted by the oven timer or toddler snack demands.
But for now, I work when I can. I work in the in-between.
And if you’re doing the same — whether it’s a business, a creative hobby, or just trying to get something off the ground — I see you. You’re not crazy. You’re committed. And that’s powerful.
So If You’ve Ever Wondered…
Yes, I work evenings and weekends.
No, it’s not easy.
But yes — I love it. I really do.
Because every little order, every late-night idea, every message from a happy customer — it all adds up. And it’s building something bigger than the hours it takes.
Thanks for being here. For supporting Tufty Studios. For seeing the effort behind every “Add to Cart.”
